Why I built this

I did not build Pilot IQ as a software person. I built it as a student pilot.

It came out of the same walls I kept hitting in my own training, and the things I wished I had every time I closed the hangar door.

It started during my Private. We would land, and the flight would end with a quick note or a two minute conversation about how it went. Then I would go home to study and chair fly, and the flight was already fading. There was nothing written down, nothing tagged to that specific flight, nothing to actually review. The lesson that mattered most was the one I could least get back.

So the first thing I wanted was simple: a debrief attached to the exact flight it came from, that I could open later while I was studying on the ground. Not a memory. A record.

The second wall was worse. Working through Part 61, I would hit a point where something just was not clicking. A maneuver, a concept, a phase of training where I stopped moving forward. From the inside it is hard to see, and from the outside it is easy to miss until you have burned hours and money grinding on it. If a student and an instructor could both see that plateau sooner, you could do something about it: switch to something else for a bit, or bring in another instructor for a flight or two who comes at it from a different angle. That is not a knock on the instructor. That is how you keep a student moving.

And moving is the whole game. We have all seen the burnout that hits when you feel like you are not getting anywhere. When you can see progression against the actual ACS tasks, even small steps show up, and that keeps you in it. It is also a backstop against the quiet thing that happens in training, where you feel like you are just handing your instructor free hours with nothing to show for it. Pilot IQ shows the progress for both of you.

None of this is here to replace your instructor. It is here to give you a bigger picture and another set of eyes over your shoulder.

Because progress is tracked against the ACS over time, a stall point shows up while there is still time to react, not after ten hours of grinding on it. The student and the instructor both see it, and can make a call: change focus, or bring in another instructor for a flight or two who comes at it a different way. That is not a knock on your instructor. That is how you keep moving.

Real numbers for your checkride, not a guess

By logging flights with the runway and the weather, Pilot IQ builds an honest picture of what you have actually flown in, and how your instructor rated you in those conditions. Walk into the checkride with the numbers, not a scramble to remember your strongest crosswind. Share them with the DPE and it answers the question before it is asked.

Readiness

Do not lose your groove waiting on a slot

Logging everything and tracking progression lets you see, at your current rate of learning, how far out a checkride realistically is. With examiners booking two and three months out, nobody wants to hit pause that long. When you are in the groove, use that timing to your advantage instead of guessing.

Flight analysis

Another honest read on the flight you just made

Go up solo or with your instructor, import your log from Garmin or ForeFlight, and Pilot IQ reads the track: your turns, altitude changes, and G loading, lined up against what you were working, whether that is S turns, turns around a point, or steep turns. For instrument work it compares against the approach flown and looks at speed, descent and glidepath, and whether you went below minimums on that approach.
